The best time to vacation on Réunion Island depends on your climate and activity preferences. Here is an overview of the different seasons and what they offer:

Dry Season (May to November)

Climate: Pleasant temperatures, generally between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F). Less rain and more sunny days.

Activities: Ideal for hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and other outdoor activities. The sea is also calmer for swimming and water sports.

Advantages: Best conditions for exploring the cirques, volcanoes, and waterfalls. The dry season also coincides with the austral winter, with cooler temperatures at higher altitudes, making hikes more comfortable. It is also the best time for whale watching (from June to October) along the coasts.

Disadvantages: This is the peak tourist season, so sites are more crowded and prices are higher.

Wet Season (December to April)

Climate: Higher temperatures, generally between 25°C and 30°C (77°F and 86°F). Rainy season with frequent showers and occasional cyclones.

Activities: The vegetation is lush, and the waterfalls are more impressive. Water sports enthusiasts will enjoy the warm waters.

Advantages: Fewer tourists, which means less crowded sites and sometimes lower accommodation rates.

Disadvantages: Hiking trails can be muddy and some may be closed due to weather conditions. Cyclones can disrupt travel plans.

Recommended Best Time

For most visitors, the period from May to November is ideal for enjoying outdoor activities and exploring the island under optimal weather conditions. However, if you are interested in lush vegetation and tranquility, the wet season can also be a good option, provided you stay flexible due to the changing weather conditions.
